Man Arrested for Firearms Offence Following Vehicle Stop on Highway 1 W in North Vancouver

Several North Vancouver RCMP vehicles stopped on Highway 1 at Westview Drive in North Vancouver.

A 26 year old Aggasiz man is in custody following a vehicle stop on Highway 1 W at Westview Drive in North Vancouver.

On February 27th, 2018, in cooperation with the Agassiz RCMP, the North Vancouver RCMP received information reporting a man en route to North Vancouver from Agassiz while allegedly in possession of stolen property and firearms for illegal sale.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., an officer with the North Vancouver RCMP detachment located the vehicle, a newer model GMC pickup, shortly after entering North Vancouver. A vehicle stop was conducted and the driver, a 26 year old Agassiz man, was taken into custody without altercation. A number firearms were located inside the vehicle.

To ensure police and public safety, our officers were required to block several westbound laneways of Highway 1 during the arrest, said Constable Brett Cunningham of the North Vancouver RCMP Detachment. In cooperation with Agassiz RCMP, our General Duty Section is continuing to investigate this incident and we'd like thank the public for their patience during the temporary lane closures.

The man is known to police and being held in custody pending further investigation. Charges have yet to be laid.
