File # 2017-3210
Four West Shore RCMP have fully recovered after being suffering from smoke inhalation.
At around 11:00 p.m, on March 8, 2017, a member of the West Shore RCMP was on patrol when he was flagged down by a citizen and advised of a fire at an apartment building at 2792 Peatt Rd in Langford.
Langford Fire Department was requested and additional RCMP officers attended to help with the evacuation.
The fire was contained to one unit on the third floor, however heavy smoke spread out throughout the building. As a result, four RCMP members undertook steps to evacuate the building as soon as possible. All four officers had to be transported to hospital where they were administered oxygen for about two hours before being discharged.
The investigation revealed the fire was accidental, states Cst. Alex Bérubé, spokersperson for West Shore RCMP.
The cause of the fire was determined to be as a result of cooking french fries.
